Just (Don't) Say No

OK, so you finally got the job interview at A Big Company. Congratulations! So you're going along through the interview, answering question after question, the interviewer is smiling, you're smiling, and then...The hiring manager asks you, "Do you have any questions?"

You think to yourself, "What do I say? If I ask a question, will I look like I wasn't paying attention? Will I sound dumb? Help me!"

The answer to those questions is easy... Just (don't) say no!!!

Whether you have any questions or not, you need to have an answer at the ready for this question. You need to demonstrate that you have looked beyond the job description and the hiring packet you got from HR, and that you want to fit in this organization.

So what could you ask?

You could start with a question about the interviewer.

How long have you worked for this company?
How did you get hired for your current position?
What's your favorite part of the job/company?
What's your least favorite part of the job/company?

You could continue with a question about the position you're applying for.

How many people do what I'll be hired to do?
What's the typical turnover of this job?
What are the different levels available in this position?
How much training is available to continue to grow my skills in this role?

And end with one killer question: What question should I have asked that I didn't?

And follow-up by asking that question if they don't answer it for you.

Just (don't) say no!
