Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The System Director of Neuroscience oversees the growth and development of the Stroke Programs and Neuro-Endovascular Service at South Texas Health System. In addition the position is responsible for the following:

  • Collaborating with distinguished neurologists, neuro-endovascular physicians, and neurosurgeons as well as multi-departmental leadership and executives to facilitate strategic service line growth.
  • Building and upholding a creative, productive, and positive working environment.
  • Ensuring the South Texas Health System Stroke Programs achieve and maintain certification with regulating bodies including The Joint Commission (TJC), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Department of State and Health Services (DSHS) and other entities through the facilitation of continuous readiness and process improvement.
  • Providing leadership and consultative services for performance improvement activities of the stroke and endovascular programs, and assistance with compliance activities for all regulatory agencies for STHS designation programs.
  • Directing, supporting, and mentoring the Stroke Program Manager(s), Analyst(s), Research Coordinator(s) and other subisidiary groups.
  • Management of various engagements in multiple facilities simultaneously.
  • Drives implementation and sustainment efforts in the organization.
  • Facilitating education of the staff and the community regarding initiatives and care of the stroke patients.
  • Collaborating with the Stroke Medical Director, Neuroscience Medical Director, and Endovascular Medical Director to address identified Performance Improvement needs through appropriate committees and activities.
  • Demonstrates excellence in leadership and management, business expansion, and referral development.
  • Able to work in a high pressure environment subject to multiple and changing priorities and demands.
  • Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 7 years acute nursing experience required. 3 years in Emergency Department or Critical Care setting preferred.
  2. A minimum of 3 years' experience in health or hospital management or leadership position, or stroke or neuroscience service line/program required.
  3. A minimum of 10 years' experience in an acute health care organization.
  4. Must acquire and maintain 8 CEUs related to Stroke annually.
  5. Demonstrates competency and professionalism in verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  6. A thorough understanding of the clinical aspect of patient care.
  7. Knowledgeable of marketing and public relations with program development and implementation skills.
  8. Exhibits key leadership values: impartiality, patience, meticulous focus, goal-oriented, and quality centered.
  9. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  10. Proficient in Computer skills, Microsoft Office, and comfort with information technology.
  11. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  1. Must possess a Master's Degree in Nursing, Business or Health-Related field or current enrollment in a graduate program of relevant field required.
  2. Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license.
  3. RN will have BLS upon hire and maintain through employment. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider's Program.
