Summary:

We are looking for a Junior Metrologist to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Corona Division of the Measurement Science and Engineering Department, which performs metrology, tests, and monitoring systems assessments supporting the Naval Air Systems Command's (NAVAIR) Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) Program.

The Junior Metrologist will work alongside experienced metrologists to learn, perform, and assist with the calibration and measurement of equipment and instruments in our organization. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in metrology and contribute to our commitment to accuracy and quality. This position employment opportunities in Beaufort, SC and New Orleans, LA.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

    Assist in the calibration and measurement of a wide range of equipment and instruments, following established procedures and standards.
  • Collaborate with senior metrologists to ensure that all calibrations are performed accurately and within specified tolerances.
  • Maintain detailed records of calibration activities, including documentation of procedures, results, and certificates.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of calibration equipment.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of calibration reports and certificates for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of calibration procedures and documentation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and efficient calibration processes.
  • Follow safety and quality protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Learn and stay updated on industry standards and best practices in metrology.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Outstanding/Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a scientific and laboratory environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with measurement instruments and calibration processes is advantageous.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable recent experience in metrology laboratory performing calibration and repair.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Possess valid Driver's license.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Metrology, Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline).
