ACTS-Aviation Security, Inc.(see is seeking a Human Resources leader at a pivotal time in the company's growth, to provide leadership and guidance, to advance the Company's national HR function. Based near Chicago O'Hare International Airport, in Des Plaines, IL, ACTS is a highly regarded and growing company providing airline and airport security related services, with over 1,000 employees operating in 35 locations throughout the United States.

Reporting to Damien Flynn, President and CEO, in this leadership team role you will join and work with a highly experienced, diverse and stable group of executives. The team is high performing, hands-on, non-hierarchical, customer and employee focused. They seek a new leader and trusted advisor with experience in complex operations (national, multi-state, highly regulated, diverse union environments) to join and contribute significantly to the overall company performance, strategy and culture. The airline and airport industry is complex, highly-regulated, dynamic and operates 24/7 - ACTS meets these challenges through a highly engaged, hard working, flexible and committed executive team, that understands our success is driven entirely by the dedication of our front-line management, security agents and security guards.

As the ideal candidate, you are proactive, strategic, collaborative, and well-versed in best practices across human resources and compliance, including the intricacies of national coverage and operations in a wide range of States, municipalities and a variety of union and non-union workplaces. You have proven capabilities and are confident in identifying and proposing continuous improvements to processes, organizational structures, and ways of working. You have significant experience working in a complex human resource environment, with national coverage and are known for working cross-functionally within your organization to deliver higher levels of operational performance and HR compliance. You have experience working in a unionized environment and are familiar with Railway Labor Act (RLA) and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). You relish the opportunity to engage with operational leadership and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives.

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversees, evaluates, improves, and manages all human resources programs, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Leads the HR department, ensuring a high-performing, well coached team that is developing in their HR expertise.
  • Collaborates with the executive leadership to define the organization's long-term strategy and goals.
  • Elevates the position of the HR function within the Company, to be a critical and respected operational partner, a trusted advisor to management and to be seen to lead by example.
  • Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, workers compensation, safety, and related laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management, collaborating with in-house and outside counsel as needed.
  • Identifies and implements short and long-range strategic HR goals to support the Company's overall goals.
  • Identifies ways to enable Company success through effective and efficient HR programs and policies.
  • Establishes and maintains key performance indicators for the Company's human function; assesses the Company's success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
  • Provides guidance, coaching and leadership to the management teams.
  • Assists with resolution of human resources related concerns, and issues.
  • Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance management, talent development, training, talent acquisition, employee recognition, training, and other HR programs.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a human resources function.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Prior experience in complex national, multi-state operations
  • Prior success in ensuring nationwide HR compliance.
  • Experience identifying and developing human resources talent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or business administration.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
  • Ten years of human resource leadership experience, with HR compliance, operations and talent acquisition experience.
  • Prior experience in transportation, security and airline or airport related industries will be of particular interest.
  • Experience designing a HR function or department and building and growing a team of HR professionals.
  • Experience working with Ultimate Software, UKG
