Summary
Maintains grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property, including buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
*Operates both gas and/or electric walking and/or riding type mowers (less than 2000 lbs.).
*Cuts grass; picks up and burns or carts away leaves, paper, or other litter.
*Trims hedges and edges around walks, flower beds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
*Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improved growth; uses shears and other hand tools.
*Applies weed control herbicide to prevent the spread and overgrowth of weeds.
*Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; waters lawns and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or activating sprinkler system.
*Operates gas/electric blowers, both hand-held and backpack types.
*Repairs and paints fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
*Assists in repairs of mechanical equipment.
*Cleans comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots; sweeps, washes, mops, and polishes as needed.
*Removes snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using shovel and snow blower; spreads salt on walkways and other areas.
*Applies fertilizer to all applicable turf types.
*Applies mulch around shrubbery/flowerbeds and trees.
*Picks-up and removes trash from turf areas and parking lots.
*Prunes shrubbery to maintain a uniform appearance.
*Follows and complies with SDS guidelines when using various chemicals.
*Complies with all agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout work areas; maintains same to meet CARF, Department of Labor, and other regulatory standards.
*Maintains safety standards and reports any exceptions to Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.
*Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Must be able to:
*Obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level required in the contract; upon receiving clearance eligibility, must begin work within 30 days.
*Understand English; comprehend instructions provided in verbal and written form.
*Proven ability to read and comprehend ground maintenance training materials; ability to follow process instructions effectively and efficiently.
*Multi-task effectively; be able to adjust to frequent changes, delays or unexpected events; be flexible and/or adaptable as work requirements change.
*Be a self-starter; work efficiently with minimal supervision after work instructions have been provided.
*Thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
*Work effectively in a team-based environment; interact professionally with customers and a highly diverse employee base on a regular and routine basis.
*Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, and have reliable transportation to and from work; travel to multiple site locations across business region.

Must have:
*Excellent customer service skills.
*Multi-cultural sensitivity; the ability to demonstrate a sensitivity and awareness of diversities in people and cultures.

Education and Experience
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Physical Demands
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to: walk; reach with hands and arms above head; talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to: stand; use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; push and/or pull; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
Work is performed in an outside setting. The employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions that vary with the season (e.g. hot, humid, cold, windy, etc.) . The noise level is moderate to high. Employees may be exposed to odors, chemicals, product spills, dust, pollen, grass clippings, rain water, and various other types of airborne particles associated with Grounds Maintenance.
