Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Automation Control Technician is responsible for set-up, installation, troubleshooting, testing and repair of complex electrical and electronic equipment including automatic machines and process controls, motor control centers and related controls, computer control systems, some with human/machine interfaces, as well as basic plant electrical equipment; participates in preventative maintenance activities related to all plant and production electrical and electronic components and systems as well as maintaining the plant's calibration system to ISO standards

    Familiar with company philosophy, procedures, and practices
  • Strong familiarity with manufacturing environment and equipment
  • Possesses good verbal and written skills
  • Capable of performing low-to-high voltage electrical work, balancing loads, laying out and wiring complex circuits with large quantity of connections, troubleshooting and correcting faulty logic and control circuits as well as carrying out electrical installations, repairs, and tests on all plant and production equipment
  • Proficient in the use of basic hand tools, volt/ohm/amp meters, oscilloscopes and other electrical diagnostic equipment.
  • Possesses and demonstrates excellent electrical/electronic aptitude and skills
  • Willing to participate in Shurtape's Pay for Skill program
  • Possesses strong work ethic, motivated, highly initiative, and able to function efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-year Associates degree in electronics or equivalent military training in electronics
  • 2 - 5 years' experience working with PLCs, AC/DC drives, HMI Software in a manufacturing environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews and accurately reports personal activities on a daily or more frequent basis
  • Assists the Engineering Manager and/or Maintenance Manager in determining proper installation and/or repair procedures for electrical and/or electronic equipment
  • Notifies the Engineering Manager if additional hand, power or electronic diagnostic tools are required
  • Participates in establishing and maintaining an effective preventative maintenance program
  • Completes small electrical and/or electronic projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager
  • Administers the plant's calibration system in compliance to ISO standards
  • Provides technical assistance to operations on proper operation of control systems on new/modified equipment installations.
  • Assists the Engineering Manager in establishing and maintaining adequate inventories of critical components
  • Assists the Engineering Department in planning existing equipment upgrades and new equipment specifications
  • Assists the Maintenance and Engineering Departments in archiving accurate equipment blueprints and operational documents.
  • Assists the Maintenance and Engineering Departments in archiving accurate equipment operating, testing and development software.
  • Assures safe work practices and company/plant policies are adhered to
  • Maintains high standard of cleanliness and organization at job sites and automation lab
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Maintenance Manager
